Ancient Buddhist Archaeological Ruins
Archaeological Site, Andrott Island, Lakshadweep 682551
Archaeological excavations on Andrott have unearthed remains of pre-Islamic Buddhist culture dating to the 6th and 7th centuries CE, including coral stone stupa bases, broken head carvings, and early pottery. These artifacts prove that Lakshadweep lay along the ancient maritime trade routes between India, Arabia, and Sri Lanka.
