Balancing Rock of Jabalpur

Madan Mahal, Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh 482001

Located at the foot of Madan Mahal Fort, the Balancing Rock is a natural geological oddity consisting of an immense, rounded granite boulder resting on a tiny contact point atop another base rock. The boulder famously withstood the devastating 6.2 Richter scale Jabalpur earthquake of 1997 without shifting even an inch.

Bhedaghat Marble Rocks River Gorge

Bhedaghat Ghats, Jabalpur District, Madhya Pradesh 482003

Bhedaghat is globally famed for its 3-kilometer sheer marble canyon where the emerald Narmada river glides between 100-foot glistening white and pastel limestone cliffs. The rock walls change color dramatically from creamy ivory to pale pink, ochre, and black veins. Boating through the narrow gorge — especially during full moon nights when the marble illuminates silver — is an unforgettable experience.

Dhuandhar Waterfalls (Smoke Cascade)

Bhedaghat, Jabalpur District, Madhya Pradesh 482003

Dhuandhar (meaning 'Smoke Cascade') is the most iconic waterfall in Central India. The vast, powerful Narmada narrows suddenly and plunges 30 meters over jagged marble bedrock. The force of the roaring torrent produces an eternal cloud of water spray that resembles thick white smoke, visible and audible from kilometers away. A scenic cable car ropeway crosses above the gorge.
