Shri Ram Raja Temple

Main Bazaar, Orchha, Niwari District, Madhya Pradesh 472246

Ram Raja Temple is the spiritual heart of Orchha. Uniquely in India, Lord Rama is worshipped here not just as a deity, but as the reigning monarch (Raja) of the land. According to legend, the idol brought from Ayodhya by Queen Ganeshi Bai refused to move from her palace kitchen, turning the palace into a shrine. To this day, a police guard of honor performs a daily gun salute to King Rama.
