Bateshwar Hindu Temples Complex (Morena)
📍 Bateshwar Valley, Padhavali, Morena District, Madhya Pradesh 476444
Bateshwar is one of the greatest archaeological restoration feats in world history. Scattered across a 25-acre secluded valley in Morena, roughly 200 stone temples built between the 8th and 10th centuries by the Gurjara-Pratihara dynasty were reduced to a jumbled mountain of rubble by an earthquake. Under renowned archaeologist K.K. Muhammed, hundreds of temples dedicated to Shiva and Vishnu have been resurrected stone by stone.
